Serial no. 2230, .44 caliber, 27-inch barrel with fixed front sight and rear folding leaf sight. Blued finish. Case-hardened hammer. Varnished walnut straight stock and forearm with two barrel bands and two sling swivels. Brass-tipped metal ramrod. Crescent metal buttplate. Original brass museum inventory tag attached: J.M. DAVIS / 8895 / MEMORIAL.
Sold to Benefit The JM Davis Collection at the JM Davis Arms and Historical Museum.
Condition: Good. Finish a smooth grey patina with scattered signs of wear and patches of pitting. Heavy pitting to receiver, cylinder and barrel bands. Noticeable scuffs, dings and bruising throughout wood. Action good. Moderately pitted bore.

However..are you serious? Cops and military '..are not in a position where stressful chambering is going to cause a problem.' (???) The first thing to come to mind are those cops in Dallas the other day. While, again, I haven't experienced ANYTHING remotely like that, am I wrong to assume that was the most stressful event in many of those officers' lives? What about the countless infantry engagements of yore, and even the current firefights our brave soldiers in uniform (such as yourself) experience 'in the sandbox.' Surely I have completely missed your point, because for as long as there have been hunting rifles, those designs have been based on what worked for the military, because if it was good enough to use against human enemies, then it was certainly sufficient for hairy, four-legged quarry. I think we find ourselves on different pages. I mean NO disrespect. |
